Ginger liqueur, rhubarb wine, black currant wine, blueberry wine? These are just a few of the creative drinks that we make at Putney Mountain Winery. From dry dinner wines to spicy and sweet liqueurs, our wines bring out the best of the plentiful and varied fruits of our region. They’ve been described in the press as “extraordinary,” “love at first taste,” and even “an intensely remarkable treasure.”
As a certified Vermont Green Business and 100% solar-powered winery, an important part of our social mission is to create wines and liqueurs from locally sourced ingredients. Our winery has been locavore since before the term was coined. We use berries, apples, pears, rhubarb and many other fruits, as well as ginger, from at least 10 different farms in this area.
But using local produce is our culinary mission as well as our social mission. We believe that the best wine is made from local fruit. Just as in France, where wineries are located to take advantage of the specific varieties of grapes grown in the terroir, we have worked with farmers to obtain the best possible fruit for our wines and then crafted the wines to reflect the character of the region.
Whether you’re looking for a sparkling wine to tickle your palate, a table wine to complement a meal, or a dessert wine that elevates the simplest dessert to a new level, we have a wine you’ll savor. Or try our Simply Ginger and Simply Maple liqueurs for your creative cocktails and after dinner enjoyment.
